first time ever

So I thought I would try blogging to keep up with some changes in my life. I am starting my new job on Monday, moving 6 hours away from my family and friends. I am feeling quite overwhelmed with all this change. Let me just tell you that I don't really handle change all that well. There is a story from my childhood that I am told nearly every Christmas. It goes something like this...Dad came home early on Christmas eve from work and apparently was bored so he decided to change the living room furniture around. He recruited all my sisters to help and they moved everything all around. Suddenly, my sister says, "Where's Emily?" Well, they search for me and found me sitting in the bathroom crying uncontrollably. When asked what was wrong, I cried..."why is Dad changing everything right before Christmas?!" So, anyways.....I don't like change. But the truth is when things are constant I say "I'm bored" but when things change, I freak out. So I am moving forward trusting that God is directing my life.

Since graduating (over 2 months ago) and passing my boards (YAY!), I have taken up diy (do it yourself) projects. Until recently, I was calling them crafts but then I realized how nerdy (I can't believe I just said that) it sounded so now they are diys. Man, I digress really quickly. Anyways, my most recent diy are starburst mirrors. They are made from circle mirrors and bamboo skewers and some spray paint. Super easy and so fun! There is just something about creating something with your own brain and hands that makes you feel needed or worthy or maybe just happy. I'll post some pics of my latest creations when I get them hung in my apartment. All these diys started when I was procrastinating studying for my boards. I went to my sister's house for a week to "focus" on my studies and I came across 120 ways to transform a t-shirt. Well, obviously I could NOT pass this up so I started trying some of them flowers and scarves and such. It was fun so I got on pinterest and started searching for other things to occupy my time. I would highly encourage everyone to do this even if you don't have a ton of free time, there are so many great ideas out there.

okey dokey, guess this is my first post. They might get more interesting as my life gets a little busier other than sleeping till noon and spray painting whatever my latest project ~

  2. Emily,
Loved the post. Wishing you the best in your new endeavors. Whitney is just the same as you when it comes to change. You can pray for her this week...she is moving into Tyler's room after our Japanese exchange student goes back to college today. Well actually, we go on to Michigan, so it won't be until Thursday when we get back from visiting my mom. Anyway, hurrah for change..we can learn to know God in new places. Love you!
